Journey of Faith (3) – Meeting the Challenge of the Giant! – 060911

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Thank you all for your letters, which I may not be able to respond to one by one.

In the early morning last Saturday, the Lord woke me with a clear mental picture of David fighting Goliath. As I read I Samuel 17 in detail, I notice some of the scientific data known about the battle: The giant was 3 meters tall, he wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing 57kg, his spear shaft was like a weaver’s rod, and its iron point weighed 7kg… On the other hand, David fought without wearing an armor and all he had were just five smooth stones and a sling in his hand.

The enemy was merciless, cursed with wicked words even before raising his arms to fight (v43-44). He seemed to be threatening the young boy but was in fact cursing God, the great commander who led the Israelite army. David did not tolerate the physical assault, nor did he put up with the curse in words. Before any physical fight, he made his greatest effort to attack the enemy – solemnly rebuking and declaring how the enemies would perish. What’s thought provoking is in the wonder of how a tennis-size stone struck and sank into Goliath’s forehead, causing him to fall facedown on the ground. The reason is simple: for the battle is the Lord’s and He will give all of the enemies into our hands.

My beloved brothers and sisters, we all have our giant in life! Let us pray in oneness as a church to expel the fears, beat the dark forces. In the name of the Lord, loose the stones with the key of heaven and cast out the vicious enemies.

Please pray for me! May the Lord grant me that piece of stone to beat the giant with!

– A brother in need of your prayer support,

Sam KONG/  瑞榮
