* The story of a group of pure and upright children (v1-21) and self-sacrificing and honest husbands and wives (v22-33). Their conduct reveals the glorious church to the world.

* Last week a group of friends were baptized and a young sister witnessed before they went into the water – her cousin, who was of the same age, was seriously ill and still shared the salvation of Christ with her. She was moved to accept the Lord and was officially baptized a few years later. She said that her cousin was a grain of wheat that fell into the ground and bore life!

* The higher our revelation, the stronger our gifts, the greater our ministry, the more information we have…the more humble we should be! Avoid three kinds of speeches: lies (4:25), corrupt words (4:29), and evil speaking (4:31). Such speeches will destroy the church of God. Don’t do harm to what has been built up by God!

* Various Bible versions translate “心裡” as “inner man” (as in King James Version) ! All who are born again and saved by God have this “inner man” in them. The first prayer item for the glorious church will then be the “inner man” be strengthened!

* The five “all” of prayer in the church for God’s kingdom: all the time, all-round, all trusting in God, all watchful, with all the saints! Knowing well that it is God, not men, who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think!

Cherish every moment, never let it waste…offering my life for You makes it worthwhile!” This is from Dr. Chiu’s well known lyrics. He has completed his life’s journey on 29 September and is now resting with the Lord. May the Lord comfort his family.

Giving Himself for the Church! – Sunday Hope 03/10/2021

This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. (v32)

A family-oriented church
1. Do we want to see husband and wife adoring each other as in their first love? Let the family be filled with the Holy Spirit always! (5:22-23)
2. Do we want to see loving parents and obedient children? Let them fear God, respect and encourage each other. (6:1-4)
3. Do we want to strive for excellence in the workplace? Let employers and employees serve God in the first place. (6:5-9)
* These are clues and glimpses of a glorious church!

1. Rejects the devil, ditches lies. Maybe unsatisfied, but does not sin. Does not repeat old mistakes. Will do the right things.
2.Abstains himself from filthy words, instead speaks words of grace. Why grieve the Holy Spirit? Shun bitterness and treat each other with grace!

Truly Knowing The Church, You Will See Its Greatness!
1. The church is chosen and predestined by God the Father (v3-6)
2. The church is the redemption and inheritance of the Lord Jesus Christ (v7-12)
3. The church is sealed and the pledge of the Holy Spirit (13-14)

Ephesians 1

* An Indonesian domestic helper of a sister was fearful of the pandemic. The sister talked with her and the Indonesian helper accepted the Lord and desires the truth. In the past 2-3 months, they have completed Matthew and Luke. Every night at 9pm the helper would wait with her Bible for the reading time. They are now reading the Book of Acts.
The helper said the night she accepted the Lord, she had a dream of her friend being trapped in a burning house and she has left the house. Her friend cried out from the house: now that you are no longer in danger, why don’t you bring me with you?

1. Honor – Honoring your parents is not only respect but also to obey them and to provide them with material needs. (v1)

2. Parenting – As parents, you need to respect and fulfill your responsibility to teach and set an example, not only in words but also in acts. (v4)

* Young Palau/包樂, grew up in Argentina and was groomed for Cambridge University. One day he told his school friends that he would deny his faith. At the eve of a carnival, at the age of 16 going on 17, he bid farewell to God! The day after, his face was swollen and his tooth ached, scaring all his friends away. The Lord kept him from evil and blemish. He repented and eventually became a great evangelist, succeeding Billy Graham, leading millions to salvation.

1. What we say – Always be giving thanks. Let not your talk be filthy, foolish, jesting which are not befitting and causing one’s life to lose out. (v4)

2. What we do – Things done in the dark cannot stand the “test of light”. Can things we do in private be made manifest and open in the light? (v13)

Character Of A Christian

1. Grace – Showing grace is the fuel burning the life of those called – humble, gentle; patient, bearing with one another in love. (v2)

2. Team – The ultimate expression of being called to the grace of life is the ‘oneness’ in spirit. This is the symbol of the church life. (v3)

The Disciples’ Ministry

1. The Gift – As minister of the gospel, we have a double gift: (a) knowing the the mystery of the gospel (b) preaching this mystery. (v2,8)

2. The Rights – “which are your glory” this is Paul’s understanding of tribulations, he sees this as the rights of the preacher. (v13)

1. Suffering in sin – “Children of wrath”; not only are we living under God’s wrath, we need to face God’s judgment at the end of life. (v3)

Life’s Blessings

1. God’s Election – Being chosen is Christians’ greatest blessing. It is all in God’s soverignty, not our conscious choice, nor our active participation. (v4)

The New War — Against The Enemy of the Church:

1. Recognize the Enemy — This is not a battle of blood, as our enemy is not people of evil, but the Evil One behind them all. (v.12)

2. Against the Enemy — Our weapons are prayer; we must intercede for others, and not just ourselves, at all times and at all places. (v.18)

Dr. To Fei Chow/周道輝醫生 explains the miracles behind the birth of a child. Before being delivered, a fetus’ lungs only has a small amount of blood flowing through it.  But in preparation for the moment of delivery, once the the placenta or umbilical cord is cut, the lungs must take up the burden of providing oxygen. At the same time, the blood flow towards the placenta and umbilical cord is immediately shut, to allow blood to flow to the lungs. The most amazing thing about this process is that there is no testing ground or rehearsal for the process to happen. What God has designed, there can be no error – you and I were brought to this world out of nothing by God, so praise Him!
