Why Use Up the Ground? – Ark Channel 230422 Sat Luke 13a

… A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. (v6)

* For three years the fig tree bears no fruits. The keeper of the vineyard is willing to extend the grace period to dig around it and add fertilizer (grace). God is full of passion to us, and expectation too! Christ sacrificed His life for us and expects us to build His church. Let’s make good use of God’s grace period. Repent and bear more fruits!

It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. (v.37)

* Keep watching means to pay close attention. It means noticing, without fatigue, whether destructive disasters are looming. Give allowance at the proper time, giving spiritual food and materials goods to help others, until the Lord’s return!

Luke12:35-59

* A prayer for peace: “…the world is slowly becoming a wilderness, and I hear booming creeping ever more closely. One day, it will destroy us. I feel the pain of millions. Yet, when I look up to the sky, I feel that everything will turn around for the better, and this cruelty will stop, and peace will come again. At the same time, I must persist in my dreams, one day they will become reality! – Anne Frank (she died in March 1945 in a concentration camp. Six months later, WW2 ended.)

Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. (v.7)

* What a wonderful message: The Heavenly Father protects our lives and safety, beyond what He provides for the birds of the sky (v1-12). He also remembers the needs of the disciples; He will provide for us! (v.24)

Luke12:1-34

* The Wall Street Journal reports that in 2021, there were over 319,000,000,000 emails sent. This does not include other modes of communication. Mankind is noisy! But from the standpoint of eternity, what we say is but a fleeting memory. Only the Word of God is eternal. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. (Matthew 24:35) Are we cherishing the words of God? In this deluge of messages, are we receiving God’s word?

Pray that God gives us sufficient to provide for others everyday.

* Gospel meeting: * Ah Kong suffered depression and loss of sleep. For the whole year, he did not talk with his classmates… His Christians friends keep him in good company. Comforted by the hymn “God Will Make A Way”, deeply moved and touched by the love of God and the brothers and sisters, he recovered and followed Jesus since. Just do not lose heart, God forgets no-one.

* Popular support does not move the Lord’s heart as He knows their motives. Parable of the sower makes us reflect – what is my response to the Word of God? We must hear and put it into practice, all the more so in face of test. (v22-25).

* A survey conducted overseas reveals, for US$10 million, 16% of the respondents would be willing to abandon their spouse, 3% would be willing to abandon their family and 3% willing to abandon their children. Keep our hearts or else we will have nothing but money!

When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” (v13)

* Luke records two contrasts (v11-17): On this side, Jesus and the crowds entered the city in a march of faith and joyful hope. On the other side, the widow’s funeral for her only son is a march of death. Jesus’ procession transforms a desperate mourning party. With the might of Jesus’ life, He cared for His people and turned around their destination. Today, side on the side of our Lord, following His to walk the path of the living!

Luke 7:36-50

* Sister Leung was under pressure at work and a Christian colleague came to comfort and pray for her peace, and immediately led her to accept Christ and gave her a Bible. She became a domestic helper and her employer, a church deacon, took her to meetings. With both blessings, sister is able to enjoy church life and surrenders all her burden to the Lord!

… he sent elders of the Jews to Him, pleading with Him to come and heal his servant. (v3)

* Here is a soldier of the Roman Empire who asked the Lord for help to save his man. The centurion was the head of the disciplinary forces and knew how to use his power but he also had the compassion for his subordinates. Being both firm and soft, he knew he needed Christ. Blessed is the city under his command!

Luke 7:1-35

* The success of Colonel Sanders, founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken, failed to find satisfaction and he searched for faith. One time a pastor knelt beside him and asked if he was willing to be born again. Sanders used to curse people, but now he sincerely repented and became a philanthropist, baptized in the Jordan River at the age of 77, and experienced God’s healing.

* Golden rule introduced by Christianity to the human world: Love your neighbour as yourself; Don’t do unto others what you don’t want done unto you. This rule is the foundation of interpersonal and international relationships. This rule also eliminates all excuses to declare wars against others. In the Old Testament, we see examples of a tooth for a tooth. In the New Testament, we see loving one another and self-sacrifice.

* The wonderful thing about faith is the peace of mind we enjoy, and the calmness of thoughts. Living in a busy and chaotic world, we can only find such blessings in Christ. Why? He is the Creator. He comes from Heaven. He brings with Him the everlasting and resurrected life. We will live in peace when we walk with Him and in union with Him.

* A night without fish, yet they came on the Lord’s command! As disciples, we rely entirely on His grace; disciples need a merciful heart, just like that of the Lord towards the leper. Lifting the lame revealed faith, being moved to action!

Luke 5:17-39

* “Diaries of Anne Frank” records a difficult time. This 14-year-old girl writes, “I know what I want, I have goals and desires, I have faith and love… if God may let me live, I will let the world hear my voice, I will go to the ends of the world, serving mankind!”

…Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch. (v.4)

* One day, the Lord will bring us out of the shallow waters towards the deep, so that we may know that He is the Lord. Peter’s catch was beyond what he could imagine, but he did not get excited because of success, and instead fell at Jesus’ knees and repented. This is the first leadership lesson by Jesus!

* Pastor Fernando of Sri Lanka writes that the situation in his country has become very serious with soaring prices, shortages of all kinds of goods, daily power cuts and difficulties in life. Brother asks for prayers: for a quick turnaround in his country, for peace in the church and for the continuation of the spread of the gospel.

* The Bible seldom records the childhood and youth of Jesus. Luke summarises His growth in four areas: mental, physical, spiritual and social (2:52). This is the goal of parents and educators today!

Luke 4:1-21

* The Wall Street Journal reports that luxury brand D&G has launched a unique (NFT) virtual crown worth US$300,000. The crown can only be worn in a virtual world, where there is no physical object but only an experience and enjoyment of virtual reality. In this day and age, even the world misses the invisible! This song comes to mind: “Though very great is all the world, And very small is your heart, Yet the great world with all its wealth Never can fill your small heart.”
” The author of the hymn could not have imagined that this ‘world’ would include a ‘virtual world’!
“while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (2 Cor 4:18).

* For the past 30 years of Jesus’ life, God the Father has given him a perfect score! God was pleased and satisfied with His words and His deeds before men, and in His living and in His work. In this perfect Jesus, we have the hope of new life!

Luke 3:21-38

* I thank God that in the beginning of 2019 I was sick due to overwork and my grandmother was weak, so I gave up my job to take care of her full time. Two years later, I looked for a new job and put my faith in it. The sisters in the prayer group also shared their worries and interceded for me. I am most thankful that my husband, sister, and mother never made me suffer financially. They were always giving. I thank the Lord and my family for their love and care. Nowadays, it is very difficult to find a job, but God has made a way for me to go back to work, and I am in a position to help the needy! God does not forget those who love Him – Gloria (HK)

* Who can afford to ignore Christ? His birth has shaken Caesar, made the angels busy, drawn the scholars/wise men on a pursuit, kindled the hope of ordinary people. He has also set a great example to children and teenagers through his excellent character and growth. Worship Him!

* Vision Index 3 % vs Happiness Index 100 %? Impaired by hereditary disease, LAM Che-cho/林遲祖 has been left with only 5 % visual ability. Despite this, he has faith in God. * Life is not our own. Jesus’ parents moved from Nazareth to Bethlehem and later fled to Egypt… Are life’s movements a coincidence or God’s planning? The hearts of kings are in God’s hands. All things work together, and it may be many years before we see fruit being born. Let our hearts be at rest.

Luke2:1-21

* Seeking knowledge – During WWII, a Jewish girl named Anne and her family were hiding from Nazi persecution, hiding in a Dutch room for over 2 years. The Diary of Anne Frank has been widely circulated after her death, moving many to pursue dreams and goodness. In the book, she noted that the family housing her had a curriculum list, which included encyclopedias, detective stories, French, German, Dutch, economics, biology, modern history, geography and more… Anne even learned about art history, the Bible, and math, and became well-versed in Western history. The Jewish people placed a premium on education, and thirsted for knowledge!

* That we are not destroyed today is entirely by God’s mercy. Some say that mercy is understanding the other party’s feelings, being concerned for their pains, helping them in their difficult times, protecting their dignity. When we reach the end of our lives and look back, we will be amazed at how all of it is God’s mercy!

Luke 1:57-80

* On 1996′s Bird Day, Finland’s Victoria National Park had a bald eagle born. However, because it was born in captivity, it lost the ability to survive in the wild and starved to death. Difficult times are how God protects and blesses us, we should give thanks to Him!

* Luke’s prologue reveals God calling godly elderlies, young people, women and the poor, bringing them into His presence. Today He also calls us to be righteous, to work with the Lord in prayer, faith and patience, to put God’s love into action!

Mark 1:26-56

* My father’s health is frail. I had the opportunity to serve him end of January and brought him to faith in Christ. In March he was infected with coronavirus and had to wait 20 hours for admission into emergency for treatment. After being discharged, he needed a chair for bathing. After much searching, he found a new one at a good price. The owner even brought it to our home. Father was able to have a comfortable bath that day. The Lord provided all this for him. He is like a child now, when asked to give thanks to the Lord, he would thank the Lord Jesus! Ah Fung (HK)
